Synopsis

I am starting this blog to document my journey as an online college student who can fit her entire life into one moving box, a suitcase and a snowboard bag. I recently (last week) withdrew from the University of Denver after only one (rather expensive) quarter and am now living in Vail, CO for one month before making a semi-permanent move (about a year) to Manhattan, NY. I have spent the last two or so years moving about the country, making new friends, taking part in various internships, partaking in as much debauchery as possible and learning how to truly be a vagabond. I have been known as "Couch Kelly" and "Kel the Drifter", which is perfectly suitable because I have changed my address 6 times in the last 2 years...the USPS must LOVE me. That is not even including the couches, cars, chairs, tents, deflated air mattresses and shared beds I have found myself sleeping in. And to tell you the truth, I am 120% happy with the way I live my life. Instability, constant movement and the ever changing scenery that I am consistently experiencing is comforting and welcomed with open arms. Living my life out of a suitcase and a backpack may be a pain the ass now and again, but the second I find myself purchasing items and settling in somewhere, I freak out and move again! I, for the very first time, lived on my own during my short stint at DU. I had a one bedroom apartment with a kitchen that had pots, pans, knives, a microwave, etc...meaning I HAD pots, pans, knives, a microwave, etc...all things that I had to get rid of, sell or donate when I decided to move. I have therefore made the decision to not OWN anything again for a long while. I'll tell ya though, there is something extremely rewarding about being forced to fit your belongings in one box and one suitcase. You truly decide what is important and necessary. Survival instincts that have long been suppressed are allowed to break free. "What do I need to survive for the next month in Vail (a snow covered village with the average temperature of 10 degrees F), while still keeping in mind survival in NYC afterwards. Decisions, decisions. The pair of pants I've had for 3 years but have never worn and I've kept telling myself they'll look great one day...those can go. The shoes that look good with only one outfit, those are gone. The Goodwill got hooked up by me this time around!

Needless to say, I am more than excited for my new adventures and hope to meet many others while they're following their dreams. I invite all to share in my stories, add their own and create a community of like minded vagabonds! Gyspies, nomads, drifters, pirates, unruly citizens, hippies, punk rockers, students, mid-life crisis adults, VW-bus owning surf bums, mountain folk, pyros, drug addicts, ravers, and of course people who wear shorts in the snow are all welcome into my conga line of friends. Who wants the maracas?
